Other Ways Of Promoting Your Website
May 19, 2009
Your website. It’s built, it’s tested and it’s live. Your family and friends thinks it’s great. Now what?Good optimisation and a proper use of “key” words and phrases will ensure that the site has the best possible chance in the competitive world of search engines but there is much more you can do with traditional (and subsequently overlooked) methods of promotion.
Phone Books & Directories
Add your business and website address. Whilst these will inevitably overtaken by the web, a lot of Customer’s will let their fingers do the – you know the rest!
Newspapers
Traditional newspaper advertising is till very popular but a lot of Companies still forget to list the website address of their website…
Press Releases
Also, don’t be mistaken into thinking that local newspapers have a bottomless pit of articles to publish daily. Any newsworthy event (such as the launch of a website by a local firm) is gobbled up!
If you don’t employ marketing staff, search online for press release templates. The format is pretty standard, just fill in the gaps.
Business Cards
Collect up all of your pre-website cards and bin them (in the recycle bin of course). Get new ones printed, today, with your
website address shown prominently.- Stationary
See Business Cards.
E-mail
Your e-mail client (such as Outlook Express) will have a signature function which will automatically append any outgoing e-mail with whatever details you require. Include your website address. Also, depending on your business type, e-mail all of your address book contacts with “Announcing Our New Website”. Some old Customer’s may have forgotten about you and this may generate sales on its own!
Signwriting
I read earlier of a webdesign firm in the USA that had a prominently placed billboard in an area known for traffic jams (thus, a daily captive audience!) The billboard gave thier name, business priorities and phone number – they just forgot the website address! Don’t make that mistake.
Do you have company vans? If so, get the website address written on the side or added as a vinyl transfer. Give out window stickers to staff, family, friends showing the website address.
Sponsorship
Sponsor your local 5-a-side football team, or the local cricket team. Get your name and website address on their shirts/programme.It’s all about getting the name out there.
You may think up new and exciting ways of achieving this. If you do, I’d love to hear about them and will promote them here.
